Full redevelopment of Northland's main hospital. Stage 1, the acute services building and enabling works, is budgeted at about $759m. Budget 2026 funded a further 158-bed ward tower, amount not disclosed. The sod was turned on both on 11 September 2026, so construction is now underway, with completion of the two scheduled for late 2031. The acute services building carries an expanded emergency department, 10 operating theatres and new intensive care facilities; the ward tower holds 158 beds across four medical-surgical wards and an acute assessment unit, a net gain of 53 beds for the campus.
