SH1 Belfast to Pegasus Motorway & Woodend Bypass

Two works north of Christchurch: about 11km of SH1 widened to four lanes from Belfast to the Williams St interchange at Pineacres, and a 6km bypass around Woodend rejoining SH1 north of the Pegasus roundabout. One of two South Island RoNS. NZTA's endorsed investment case sets an envelope of $800m to $1b, with $68.1m approved for detailed design and early works and $37m for property. Detailed design is complete, fast-track consents were lodged in early 2026 and early works began that year, with about four years to build.
