An 18km rapid-transit busway for fast-growing northwest Auckland, Brigham Creek to the city centre at Newton via Te Atatu. Originally a Labour rapid-transit corridor removed from the 2024-27 NLTP, then reinstated by National as a busway. The first station, Westgate Te Waiarohia, opened in August 2026, replacing on-street stops and serving the WX1, which carried 113,200 trips in May 2026, up almost 50% in two years. The fast-track panel issued a draft decision approving the corridor on 12 August 2026, signalling it intends to approve subject to conditions, with the final decision due 7 September. Now costed at $4.9b, with construction due to start in 2027.
