Roads of National Significance priority under the current government, which committed $1.75b for Stage One in Budget 2028 on 4 October 2026 if re-elected. Labour opposed previous incarnations and would review it. That funding is contingent on the result, so it does not lower the exposure being measured here. The route designation confirmed in 2016 is in place and hard to unwind, which lowers the likelihood of the corridor itself being lost (it survived being removed from and later restored to the RoNS list).
