The former Marsden Point oil refinery, closed in April 2022, now operates as Channel Infrastructure's fuel import terminal, storing about 40% of NZ's fuel and 80% of its jet fuel and piping it 170km to Auckland. Channel has not published a total for the current works, so no figure is shown. The disclosed pieces are a $30m site upgrade for the Marsden Point Energy Precinct, $17-21m across FY25 and FY26 for a new bitumen import terminal for Higgins (10,000 tonne storage, completing in the second half of 2026 on a 15-year contract worth about $45m), and a government-contracted $21.6m diesel-reserve expansion.
