Infrastructure rebuild in Hawke's Bay after Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023. Damage to council roads and bridges alone was put at about $1.1b. Under the 2023 Crown and council cost-sharing agreement the Crown offered around $556m toward recovery, including about $260m for transport and $203.5m for regional flood protection, within a wider $941m regional package that included $475m for road and rail. Works include stopbank reconstruction, road and bridge rebuilds in the Esk Valley and the Tutaekuri and Ngaruroro corridors, network restoration and managed-retreat buyouts. No consolidated regional total is published.
